The United States has been practicing social distancing guidelines for many weeks and it is safe to say that a lot of us are going a little stir-crazy. Being in your house for months on end with the only respite being to go to the doctors or grocery store will make anybody yearn for what used to be and the great outdoors.
With many states reopening, there are a lot of people who are looking to go away for the weekend and participate in outdoor activities that let them escape from their home. While you want to make sure that you are being cautious and preparing for a potential second wave of Coronavirus, it can also be good for your mental health to do something different.
We’ve compiled some things for your weekend survival kits that you might want to include.
Sanitation
Most importantly you are going to want to make sure that you carry around sanitation things with you in order to stave off the virus. The CDC recommends including disposable gloves, soap and disinfectant in order to clean public spaces.
We recommend getting a small travel size of soap and something disposable you can wipe surfaces down with. You can use a reusable rag in your weekend survival kits, but you’ll need to pack multiples as they should not be reused until after they have been washed. Be prepared to also pack a separate carry container or bag for the used rags to separate them from the rest of your sanitizing products.
Snacks
All of your weekend survival kits should include enough water for you, and company for the days you plan on being out and about. We also recommend packing some snacks that will keep you full and satisfied on your adventures!
There are a lot of nutrient dense and delicious to-go snacks that you can make or purchase! We recommend making your own snacks to avoid processed chemicals and avoid interaction with people at the grocery stores. Nuts are an easy snack to pack that also hold a lot of protein and will keep you full longer.
First Aid
Some first aid supplies are a must for any weekend survival kits you make. It can be hard to cut down first aid supplies into just the essentials, but here is what we recommend you keep in your travel kit. You’re going to want to pack bandages, surgical tape, gauze, scissors and tweezers for any cuts you get along the way. It also would be good to include some antihistamine cream and an antibacterial ointment for safe measures. Always be sure to have some pain relief medication on hand which can be used in non-emergency situations as well.
Extras
Whether you are just exploring for the weekend, or have an actual destination in mind, some things you might want to include in your weekend survival kits are a change of clothes, sunscreen and a bathing suit. All of these items can help to make sure that your weekend adventure goes great and you enjoy it to the fullest extent, not held back by sunburn or not enough clothes.
